Baltimore Orioles GM Mike Elias and assistant GM Sig Mejdal reciprocated the gesture made by Ravens GM Eric DeCosta two years prior.
According to The Athletic, members of the Baltimore Orioles’ leadership team joined the Baltimore Ravens in their draft room during the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday night.
Both Elias and Mejdal, part of the Orioles’ leadership, were invited to join the Ravens, led by GM Eric DeCosta.
This act served as a return favor for DeCosta, who was invited by Elias and Mejdal a couple of years ago. Back in 2022, when the Orioles held the No. 1 overall pick, they had invited DeCosta to join them.
During that draft, the Orioles selected Jackson Holliday with the top pick. Despite Holliday’s struggles at the plate (batting .059 so far in his career), there’s optimism that he will improve over time.
Now, with Elias and Mejdal in the draft room, will DeCosta and the Ravens experience similar luck? Well, on Thursday, the Ravens picked Clemson defensive back Nate Wiggins with the No. 30 overall pick. Wiggins, aged just 20, played three years for the Tigers, tallying 21 pass breakups and three interceptions.
The Ravens are coming off a successful season, winning the AFC North Division and reaching the AFC Championship Game, though they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl, their second consecutive title and third in four years.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are gearing up to start a seven-game homestand against the Oakland Athletics, followed by the New York Yankees.
