Kyle Bradish is returning to the Orioles sooner than expected, according to manager Brandon Hyde. Hyde announced that Bradish will rejoin the major league rotation, ending his injury rehab assignment ahead of schedule.
Bradish started for Triple-A Norfolk last night and performed impressively, limiting Gwinnett to just one run over five innings while recording six strikeouts with only one walk. He threw 77 pitches, demonstrating his readiness to return.
Originally, Bradish’s rehab assignment began on April 16 at Double-A Bowie, but a live batting practice session on April 11 at High-A Aberdeen accelerated his progress. Hyde stated that Bradish feels great and performed well during his minor league starts, striking out 14 batters over 11 1/3 innings.
Hyde confirmed that Bradish will likely rejoin the Orioles’ rotation rather than making another rehab start. Bradish had been dealing with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow since January but opted for a platelet-rich plasma injection instead of surgery.
Bradish’s return is a boost for the Orioles, who are currently leading the league. Last season, he was a standout performer, finishing fourth in Cy Young voting with impressive stats. The Orioles have yet to finalize their rotation for the upcoming series against the Yankees.
Meanwhile, John Means is set to make his final rehab start with Norfolk, posing a roster challenge for the Orioles. Manager Hyde emphasized the importance of having enough pitching options given the unpredictable nature of the game.
Tyler Wells, currently on the injured list, is progressing in his recovery from elbow inflammation, but he is not yet cleared to throw. The team is taking a cautious approach with his rehabilitation.
In other news, catcher David Bañuelos cleared waivers and remains with the Orioles organization after being designated for assignment. Additionally, tonight’s game features a giveaway of Brandon Hyde bobbleheads, which has generated excitement among fans and Hyde’s family.
