Coach Mox and the Virginia Cavaliers are making waves in the transfer portal, announcing the addition of North Carolina transfer RyLee Grays. This marks the third transfer to join the team this offseason, following Hawa Doumbouya from Maryland and Latasha Lattimore from Miami in April. Grays, a 6’3 forward, spent her freshman year at UNC and brings three seasons of eligibility to Virginia. Despite limited playing time at UNC, where she averaged 1.4 PPG and 1.2 RPG in five appearances off the bench, Grays showcased her talent in high school, earning the Houston Chronicle Player of the Year title with impressive stats.
Originally from Pearland, Texas, Grays was a highly-rated prospect in high school, though she’s yet to fully demonstrate her potential at the collegiate level. However, her athleticism and size suggest she could become a valuable asset for the Cavaliers. With the addition of Grays, Doumbouya, and Lattimore, Virginia’s frontcourt for the 2024-25 season, once a concern after Camryn Taylor’s departure, now appears promising. Alongside returning players Taylor Lauterbach and Edessa Noyan, as well as incoming freshman Breona Hurd, these transfers are expected to integrate well into Coach Mox’s fast-paced style of play.
With 11 scholarship players now on the roster, Virginia’s recruiting efforts might not be over yet, as Coach Mox continues to attract promising transfers to bolster the team.
