JUST IN: Another Auburn athletics phenomenon has just gained two-year contract extension

Auburn’s athletics director, John Cohen, has secured a contract extension that will keep him at the university until 2029. This extension, which adds two years to his original agreement, was recently confirmed through documents obtained via open records requests by several publications. Cohen initially joined Auburn in October 2022, coinciding with the dismissal of former football coach Bryan Harsin, and his contract was set to expire in October 2027.

The extension, signed by Cohen and university president Chris Roberts on May 2, prolongs his tenure until October 2029, as reported by the Montgomery Advertiser. Despite his relatively brief time at Auburn, Cohen has made significant strides for the athletic department. Notable achievements include the hiring of football head coach Hugh Freeze in December 2022.

Under Cohen’s leadership, substantial renovations have been made to facilities such as the McWhorter Center and Plainsmen Park, with investments totaling $5 million and $30 million, respectively. Cohen spearheaded projects like the Hall of Fame construction at Plainsmen Park and upcoming enhancements aimed at enhancing spectator experiences, including premium seating above the outfield wall.

Collaborating with the Board of Trustees, Cohen facilitated the approval of upgrades to Jordan-Hare Stadium, including a new jumbotron and renovations in the north end zone, alongside the introduction of additional premium offerings on football game days.

One of Cohen’s most noteworthy achievements is the transition from Under Armour to Nike for Auburn Athletics’ apparel, marking a significant shift after an 18-year partnership. This lucrative deal, set to commence in July 2025, stands as one of the largest in college sports history.
