The Saints have begun trimming their roster following the NFL Draft, with backup quarterback Kellen Mond and backup lineman Tommy Kraemer being waived, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. Mond, a third-round pick for the Vikings from Texas A&M, found himself as the seventh quarterback chosen in a draft that started with Trevor Lawrence. However, despite being Minnesota’s third-string QB behind Kirk Cousins and Sean Mannion in his rookie year, Mond only saw action in one game, completing two passes for five yards. Since then, he hasn’t played in an NFL game, moving between rosters and practice squads for various teams.
Kraemer, an undrafted lineman from Notre Dame in 2021, initially signed with the Lions and later joined the Saints. He saw limited action in his rookie season due to a back injury and mostly played on special teams in 2023 for the Saints.
With the arrival of rookie Spencer Rattler and the presence of Jake Haener and Taysom Hill, Mond became expendable. Similarly, the addition of depth linemen like Shane Lemieux, Justin Herron, and Oli Udoh reduced the space available for Kraemer on the roster.
