The Miami football team’s offensive line situation is set to improve, as official visits are set to commence by the end of the month following the de-commitment of three-star tackle Lamar Williams last Thursday. Williams and Miami reportedly mutually agreed on the de-commitment.
Ranked as the 509th prospect nationally, the 40th offensive tackle, and the 70th recruit in Florida from Havana Gadsden County, Williams visited Miami in late January and committed on February 2, only to de-commit shortly after. Prior to his de-commitment, Williams was the sole offensive lineman committed to Miami for the 2025 class.
Williams took unofficial visits to Florida and Florida State, with Houston now emerging as the front-runner for his commitment, boasting a 56.2 percent likelihood according to his On3 profile. He is scheduled for an official visit to Houston on the weekend of June 21. During the winter contact period, Williams received offers from Houston, Tulane, and West Virginia, as reported by Gaby Urrutia of Inside the U.
Miami has a lineup of eight offensive linemen set for official visits between May 31 and June 21, comprising five interior linemen and three tackles. Among the current roster, center Zach Carpenter is the only offensive lineman projected to be in the rotation for the 2024 season, as he enters his final year of eligibility. Left tackle Jalen Rivers, a fifth-year redshirt junior, is likely to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft after the 2024 season, while right tackle Francis Mauigoa is expected to depart following the 2025 season.
Markel Bell, a junior, and Samson Okunlola, a redshirt freshman, are positioned at offensive tackle behind Mauigoa and Rivers. Additionally, returning starting right guard Anez Cooper will be eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft, with his performance in the upcoming 2024 season likely influencing his decision for 2025.
