Former Oregon and Auburn football QB Bo Nix got the ultimate Denver Broncos-related seal of approval: that of two-time Super Bowl-winning championship signal-caller John Elway, who spoke glowingly of the No. 12 overall draft pick.
“I’m excited about the pick,” Elway said “I think it’s a great pick for the Broncos. As we talked about, he’s played a lot of football and won a lot of football games. And I’ve heard great things about him as a kid, too, so that’s an added plus.’’
That’s promising news for Nix and the team! It speaks volumes when someone outside the organization has that much confidence in a player’s abilities, especially when it comes from an NFL executive. It sounds like Nix has qualities that really stand out and fit well within Sean Payton’s schemes. It’ll be exciting to see how he performs and contributes to the team’s success.
“I’m betting on it [succeeding] heavily,” the executive said . “Bo has experience, he has enough arm talent and I think he is going to do what he is coached to do. Sean Payton’s system is optimal for him. Bo is not going to go off-script as much as Russ was going to do. Look, I don’t want him to be successful, but I think he is going to be legit there.”
Nix now has the most critical blessings he can get with Sean Payton and now Elway. He’s just a Peyton Manning endorsement short of hitting the Broncos holy trinity (at the moment).
With all the support he’s receiving, Nix has the wind beneath his wings in Denver. He’ll be behind a highly-paid, though as-of-yet highly-performing offensive line. He’ll also have his top receiver at Oregon, Troy Franklin, as one of his top weapons; not to mention Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims Jr., and Tim Patrick.
All that’s left is the performance on the field. He has already won the offseason in the Mile High City.
