Delaney Crawford and Grady Brosterhous, both recruited as quarterbacks in 2022, are now reportedly leaving the Virginia program, having entered the transfer portal. Brosterhous, a 6’2″, 210-pound quarterback from Weddington, North Carolina, served as UVA’s third-string QB last season, primarily utilized in short-yardage situations, where he performed well. However, with Anthony Colandrea and Tony Muskett solidifying the top spots, and Gavin Frakes likely to take the third-string position after signing with the Cavaliers in January, Brosterhous decided to explore transfer options, especially after confirming his standing in the spring football sessions.
In contrast, Delaney Crawford, an agile dual-threat quarterback and track & field sprinter, switched to wide receiver before the 2023 season but didn’t see any game time in his two years at UVA. With the roster boasting established receivers like Malachi Fields, JR Wilson, Suderian Harrison, and newcomers from transfers, Crawford’s prospects for playing time in 2024 were slim, prompting his entry into the transfer portal.
The departure of Brosterhous and Crawford brings the tally of Virginia players entering the transfer portal this offseason to 16. Conversely, the team has welcomed 12 new players from the transfer portal, including recent addition Ethan Sipe, a graduate transfer from Dartmouth, bolstering the offensive line with two years of eligibility remaining.
