The man who pled guilty to the murder of former Utah football player is going to prison. Utah football player who was shot and killed at a party, and now the man who pled guilty to the killing has learned his own fate. Buk M. Buk was sentenced to 18 years to life for the killing of Lowe, in addition to receiving another three year to life sentence for the attempted murder of the woman he also shot.
Buk fatally shot Lowe and a woman following a dispute at a party, despite Lowe’s attempt to intervene by asking a friend of the shooter to move his car. According to court documents, Buk continued firing even after both victims had fallen to the ground. Lowe, aged 21, died at the scene, while the 20-year-old woman was critically injured but survived after being taken to the hospital.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill expressed hope that Buk’s conviction would provide some solace to the families of Lowe and the surviving victim. Initially facing the death penalty, Buk ultimately avoided it after prosecutors and Lowe’s mother reached an agreement.
Lowe’s mother, speaking at Buk’s sentencing, emphasized her lack of forgiveness and expressed a desire for him to spend the rest of his life in prison.
