Just one day after securing his 26th PGA Tour victory, Rory McIlroy initiated divorce proceedings in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Monday.
The legal case, titled McIlroy v. McIlroy, was initially disclosed by TMZ Sports, catching the golf community completely by surprise.
McIlroy and his wife, Erica Stroll, have been married for seven years and share a three-year-old daughter named Poppy Kennedy.
As word spread during the PGA Championship at Valhalla on Tuesday in Louisville, Kentucky, McIlroy was on the driving range, preparing to participate in his 16th PGA Championship.
McIlroy’s impressive five-shot triumph at the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte last week showcased his exceptional form, indicating that he is currently delivering some of his finest performances in 2024.
Reflecting on his recent achievements, McIlroy remarked on Sunday at the Wells Fargo event, “I feel like my seasons in ’22 and ’23 were quite successful, and I was fairly content with my game during those years. I experienced a bit of a slump earlier this year, but I believe I’ve regained my form.”
