The Virginia Tech football team experienced significant retention following the 2023 season, bolstering both their offensive and defensive sides. Defensive standouts Antwaun Powell-Ryland and Josh Fuga announced their return, fortifying the defensive line. Despite this, head coach Brent Pry actively sought depth in the transfer portal, securing talents like Aeneas Peebles from Duke, Kemari Copeland from Iowa Western Community College, and Kelvin Gilliam from Oklahoma.
Adding to their defensive arsenal, Pry secured a significant commitment from Alabama transfer Khurtiss Perry, further solidifying the team’s defensive prowess and making their defensive line one of the most formidable in the ACC.
Khurtiss Perry’s decision to commit to Virginia Tech over Indiana, Wisconsin, and Louisville was announced by Pete Thamel. Perry, a former four-star prospect ranked 54th overall in the Class of 2022 by 247Sports, brings considerable talent and depth to the Hokies’ defensive unit.
In addition to Perry, Pry also welcomed offensive lineman Montavious Cunningham from Georgia State and linebacker Sam Brumfield from Middle Tennessee State. Last month, the team secured a commitment from quarterback Collin Schlee from UCLA after Dylan Wittke’s departure to Minnesota for the 2024 season.
