One of the joys of summer is tracking the Men of Mackey as they gear up for the TBT and the lucrative $1 million prize. Lately, it’s seemed like the Men of Mackey were more akin to Men who strolled around Mackey Arena once.
While there have always been Purdue players on the team, they’ve seemed outnumbered in recent times. However, this year, Purdue names keep popping up, with yet another addition announced today.
Aaron Wheeler spent three years at Purdue before transferring for a final season at St. John’s. His freshman year showed promise, setting high expectations for his Purdue tenure. Despite some standout moments in the subsequent two seasons, he didn’t quite reach the lofty standards set for him.
Departing after his junior year, he left with no ill will, boasting a Big Ten championship and an Elite Eight appearance, as the tweet highlights.
While Wheeler started 14 games over three seasons at Purdue, he saw action in 16 games during his sole season at St. John’s. As a college basketball enthusiast, seeing players like Wheeler seek opportunities elsewhere, where they can shine during their senior season, brings me joy.
It’s heartening to witness former Boilermakers excel wherever they go, and Wheeler’s success at St. John’s was particularly gratifying.
Wheeler now joins the likes of Sasha Stefanovic, Kelsey Barlow, and David Jenkins Jr. on the current roster, with more additions expected. Stay tuned for further updates right here.
