As it happened: One of the brisbane star was sentenced to jail

In a new development following yesterday’s intense parliamentary proceedings, Ros Bates, the Opposition’s health spokesperson, has been referred to the influential ethics committee for allegedly showing disrespect towards the Speaker’s authority.

During the session, Fentiman expressed personal offense at Bates’ remarks, triggering a parliamentary procedure mandating the withdrawal of such comments, which Bates repeatedly declined to do.

Deputy opposition leader Jarrod Bleijie objected, citing a quote from the Health Minister’s video encouraging followers to retweet and share the message. Pitt, the Speaker, suggested addressing the issue in writing, as per usual protocol, rather than on the floor.

After careful consideration, Pitt stated that while he acknowledged Bates’ emotional involvement in the matter, her refusal to comply with his directive as Speaker constituted “an extremely serious matter” warranting referral to the committee.
