Officially signed: UVA lands top commitment of a versatile player

Interviewer: Elijah, it’s great to sit down with you and get to know more about your journey to UVA and your background both on and off the court. Let’s dive into some of the details of your recruitment process and what drew you to Virginia.

Elijah Saunders: Thanks for having me, I’m excited to be here and talk about my experience.

Interviewer: You mentioned that the recruitment process was quite hectic with numerous schools reaching out to you. What ultimately led you to consider Virginia as your top option?

Elijah Saunders: Virginia was actually my favorite option from the beginning. Coach Sanchez’s initial call felt genuine, and that authenticity continued throughout the process. But I needed to see it for myself, hence the visit. Once I stepped foot in Charlottesville, I knew it was the right fit for me.

Interviewer: It sounds like your visit to UVA made a significant impression. Can you share a bit about that experience?

Elijah Saunders: Absolutely, the visit was amazing. Coach Bennett took me around, and we even grabbed breakfast together. Seeing how much respect and admiration people had for him was really cool. And of course, touring the facilities was eye-opening. The John Paul Jones Arena and the practice facilities are top-notch.

Interviewer: Away from basketball, what are some of your hobbies and interests?

Elijah Saunders: I’m a big NBA fan, especially during playoff season. I enjoy watching players like Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, and Devin Booker. Back in San Diego, I loved going to the beach, but I also have a passion for golf.

Interviewer: Let’s shift back to basketball. How would you describe your playing style and what you bring to the court?

Elijah Saunders: I consider myself a versatile stretch four. While I may not have showcased all aspects of my game at San Diego State, I believe I can contribute in various ways. I’m comfortable facing up, shooting from mid-range, and even beyond the arc. Plus, I take pride in my defensive abilities and versatility on that end.
