Officially signed: French has land a top blockbuster deal of one of Kentucky special star

Gabriel Diallo, renowned for his contributions to Kentucky men’s tennis between 2019 and 2022, secured a coveted spot in the main draw of the 2024 French Open on Thursday, marking his debut appearance in one of professional tennis’ prestigious four majors.

Currently holding the No. 166 position in the ATP Tour rankings, Diallo earned his entry through the qualifying rounds, showcasing his prowess by triumphing in three grueling three-set matches. His journey to secure a place in this year’s second major began with victories over two Argentinian opponents, Genaro Alberto Olivieri and Marco Trungelliti, before sealing his berth by overcoming Switzerland’s Alexander Ritschard in a hard-fought battle.

Hailing from Montreal, Canada, Diallo’s achievement carries significance as he becomes the first product of Kentucky men’s tennis to grace the main singles draw of a major championship since Jesse Witten’s appearances in the French Open and Wimbledon in 2010.
