Two male student-athletes from the University of Iowa excelled in track and field, securing spots in the NCAA Championships. Rivaldo Marshall, a junior from Kingston, Jamaica, secured an automatic bid in the 800 meters, clocking in at 1:46.96.
Marshall, who claimed the indoor 800-meter national title earlier this season, holds both outdoor (1:45.86) and indoor (1:46.86) program records in the event. Meanwhile, senior Jordan Johnson earned his place in the NCAA Championships with a discus throw of 58.22 meters (191’ 0”), placing ninth overall.
Johnson, previously an All-American in 2022, reflected on maintaining focus and relaxation during the competition. He now anticipates competing in Eugene, Oregon, expressing excitement for the upcoming event.
Additionally, freshman Precious Irivi secured a spot in the World Athletics U20 Championships with a 15th place finish in the triple jump, leaping 15.57 meters (51’ 1”). Irivi, hailing from Nigeria, credited his coach, Hadrien Choukron, for nurturing his confidence and poise.
He surpassed his personal best twice during the competition, ranking 20th globally among U20 athletes and securing a spot in the upcoming championships in August.
