The Virginia Cavaliers secured their second transfer portal addition post-spring practice, as linebacker prolific star committed to join them from Cincinnati.
Initially committing to UTEP earlier in the month, Jones changed course after visiting Charlottesville this week, opting for UVA instead.
Hailing from Boynton Beach, Fla., Jones, a 6’0, 230-pound sixth-year senior, began his collegiate journey at Louisville, where he racked up 90 tackles across 36 games from 2020-2022.
Transitioning to Cincinnati with head coach Scott Satterfield in 2023, Jones recorded a career-best 56 tackles along with 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 1 interception in 11 games (8 starts). Notably, he delivered a standout performance with 13 tackles against Oklahoma on September 23rd.
A product of American Heritage High School in South Florida, Jones, a three-star prospect in the class of 2019, earned recognition as the Miami Sentinel’s Broward County Class 5A-1A Defensive Player of the Year, boasting impressive stats of 122 tackles and 29 TFLs in his senior season.
With one year of eligibility left, Jones brings a seasoned presence and vast experience to a youthful Virginia linebacker corps, alongside standouts like sophomore Kam Robinson, and juniors Stevie Bracey and Trey McDonald.
The Cavaliers have now utilized 84 of the 85 available scholarships for the 2024 season, following the commitment of Dartmouth offensive lineman Ethan Sipe on May 1st.u
