Three-star quarterback declared his commitment to Baylor on Saturday morning, opting for the Bears over UTSA, Marshall, North Texas, McNeese State, and UTEP.
Griffin, who received an offer from offensive coordinator Jake Spavital on May 10th and visited Waco unofficially on Thursday, discussed his budding rapport with the coaching staff and his eagerness to finalize his decision before summer.
“It’s an excellent program, and I’m thrilled about it,” Griffin told BearsIllustrated. “After the visit and discussing football with Coach Spavital, I believe I can contribute to the team and thrive in that offensive system.”
Until this week, Griffin had awaited an in-depth conversation with Baylor’s head coach Dave Aranda regarding his role and fit within the team.
“Coach Aranda was crucial,” he remarked. “He instilled in me excitement to win games, build this recruiting class, and leave my mark at Baylor.”
Among the factors influencing his commitment, Griffin emphasized his compatibility with Spavital’s offensive strategy as pivotal.
“I focus on refining my accuracy above all else, which I consider one of my greatest strengths,” he explained. “The timing and decision-making required in that offense align with my skills.”
During his Thursday visit, Griffin found alignment not only in football strategy but also in team culture during discussions with Spavital and Aranda.
As Baylor entrusts Griffin to spearhead their recruiting efforts, he prioritizes recruiting peers and has already devised his pitch for top prospects.
“For offensive players, there’s a natural allure to playing in Spavital’s offense,” Griffin noted. “I want to demonstrate that Coach enables success, and I hope others will recognize that.”
On Friday, 247Sports assigned Griffin a robust three-star 86 rating, lauding his strong junior season and standout performances at spring camps.
