Syracuse transfer land commitment of a major 4-star contender with another team

In early May 2025, Cortez Harris, a highly-regarded four-star edge player hailing from Washington, D.C., revealed his top 10 college choices, with Syracuse football making the cut. Harris, standing at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 230 pounds, is ranked within the top 300 prospects nationally by various recruiting services.

Although he officially listed 10 schools, Rivals.com analyst Adam Friedman suggests that Harris’ true contenders are fewer. Friedman notes that Harris plans official visits to Tennessee, Maryland, and Penn State in June, with potential visits to Florida, Syracuse, and Michigan also under consideration. Harris aims to make his commitment around July 1, with some flexibility in the timeline.

Syracuse football stands as a serious contender for Harris’ commitment. Securing an official visit from him before his decision would be crucial for the SU coaching staff. Harris received a scholarship offer from Syracuse in December 2022, during Dino Babers’ tenure as head coach.

Regarded as one of the top edge players in his class, Harris is highly rated within Maryland and nationally. Various recruiting websites, including On3, place him among the top prospects in the country for the 2025 cycle.

As of now, there are no clear predictions from analysts regarding Harris’ college choice. On3’s prediction model currently favors Penn State, followed by Maryland and Tennessee.

Syracuse’s head coach Fran Brown and his staff have secured commitments from at least 19 recruits for the 2025 class, which ranks impressively in both the 247Sports Composite and Rivals.com rankings.

One notable commit for Syracuse is four-star edge player Sharlandiin Strange, who chose the Orange over other prominent programs. Another recruit, CJ May, plans to visit Syracuse officially in June. May, a former Notre Dame commit, is highly regarded nationally, ranking as high as No. 145 overall.
