One of the joys of summer is tracking the Men of Mackey as they gear up for the TBT and the chance at a $1 million prize. In recent times, the Men of Mackey have seemed more like Men who made a brief stop at Mackey.
While Purdue players have always been part of the mix, they’ve seemed outnumbered lately. But this year, the Purdue roster keeps expanding, with yet another addition announced today.
Aaron Wheeler spent three years at Purdue before transferring to finish his collegiate career at St. John’s. Upon his arrival as a freshman, Wheeler made an immediate impact, raising expectations for his Purdue tenure.
However, despite some standout moments over the next two years, he didn’t quite meet the lofty standards we had set. Departing after his junior year, Wheeler left on good terms, boasting a Big Ten championship and an Elite Eight appearance, as mentioned in a tweet.
Having started 14 games over three seasons with Purdue, Wheeler earned 16 starts in his single season at St. John’s. As a college basketball fan, it’s heartening to see players like Wheeler seek opportunities elsewhere when they might not find them at their original school.
As a Purdue supporter, I always root for former Boilermakers to excel wherever they land, so witnessing Wheeler thrive at St. John’s was genuinely gratifying.
