Jaxson Robinson, a former BYU guard, has decided to transfer to Kentucky for his last season of eligibility, following a stint of exploring the NBA pre-draft process. This marks the fourth leg of Robinson’s collegiate journey, having started at Texas A&M in 2020-21, then moving to Arkansas for a season, and subsequently playing two seasons for the Cougars.
Under coach Mark Pope’s guidance at BYU, Robinson, initially a four-star prospect from the Class of 2020, flourished. He was named Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year in the 2023-24 season, leading the Cougars with an average of 14.2 points per game in 26.4 minutes.
Robinson’s arrival at Kentucky bolsters Pope’s roster, which is nearing completion. Standing at 6-foot-7, Robinson brings much-needed offensive prowess to UK’s lineup, having scored in double digits in 25 games last season.
With no players returning from the Wildcats’ previous season under coach John Calipari and none of UK’s current commitments having played together last season, Pope faces a unique challenge. However, he remains optimistic about fielding a competitive team due to the blend of experience and talent acquired from the transfer portal. Robinson becomes the ninth inbound transfer and the sixth to have completed four seasons of college basketball.
Joining him in utilizing the extra season of eligibility provided amid the COVID-19 pandemic are Kerr Kriisa (from West Virginia, Arizona), Lamont Butler (San Diego State), Koby Brea (Dayton), Andrew Carr (Wake Forest, Delaware), and Amari Williams (Drexel). One
