On Monday evening, Megan Duffy, the head coach of Virginia Tech’s women’s basketball team, achieved a significant milestone by securing her first major recruit for the Class of 2025. Katie Sears, ranked as the second-best player in North Carolina, committed to joining the Hokies.
Sears, who previously earned the title of conference Player of the Year at Watauga High School, boasts impressive stats, averaging 30 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists per game.
While Sears’ commitment marks a promising beginning for the Class of 2025, another notable recruit under Duffy’s wing is gearing up to announce her decision on June 5. Kamryn Kitchen, hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, recently unveiled her Top 6 choices, with Virginia Tech among them.
The other contenders include Penn State, Virginia, Louisville, Illinois, and Marquette. Interestingly, Kitchen had been offered a spot at Marquette by Duffy before the coach transitioned to Virginia Tech to replace Kenny Brooks.
Kitchen, known for her sharpshooting abilities, currently plays for Independence High School and has showcased her talent at events like the Steph Curry Shooting Camp last summer. She boasts an impressive shooting record, with over 50% accuracy from the field this season, including an impressive 42% from beyond the three-point line.
