Welcome back to our monthly survey on GM approval. The team Brian Cashman helped put together is performing exceptionally well, which is reflected in his approval ratings for the year so far. His ratings began at 32 percent in February, rose to 53 percent in March after a successful series against the Astros, then dipped to 35 percent in April following some losses to the Orioles. If May continues the positive trend, we may see his ratings climb even higher.
Aaron Judge had a slow start to the season, leading many, myself included, to question his form. However, he has since proven us wrong with an outstanding performance in May, prompting speculation that this might be his best season yet.
He achieved a feat matched only by Lou Gehrig in 1930, with impressive stats in home runs, doubles, and exit velocities. His performance raises questions about how much further his stats can improve.
As for Juan Soto, he’s exceeding expectations, showcasing remarkable plate discipline and power, putting him in the league of standout hitters like Judge and Stanton. His stats speak volumes about his prowess at the plate, positioning him as one of the game’s elite hitters.
The offensive strength extends beyond these stars. Players like Anthony Volpe and Alex Verdugo have stepped up, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Even Giancarlo Stanton has shown glimpses of his former self. However, not every player is performing at their peak, with some struggling to find their form.
Despite some offensive inconsistencies, the starting rotation has been a standout performer, boasting impressive ERA numbers even without Gerrit Cole. Players like Carlos Rodón and Nestor Cortes have particularly excelled.
Unfortunately, Clarke Schmidt’s promising start to the season was cut short by injury, but Luis Gil has emerged as a formidable replacement, putting up impressive numbers and earning recognition in Cy Young and Rookie of the Year discussions.
Now, the question is, do you approve of Brian Cashman’s performance given the team’s outstanding record through May? While a binary response may seem limiting, it provides a snapshot of public sentiment toward the GM’s leadership.
