Montreal Canadien Set To Land Another Commitment Of a Top Experienced Star

After reaching the Stanley Cup Final in 2021, the Montreal Canadiens are currently undergoing a restructuring process, as described by former player agent David Ettedgui of BPM Sports on June 6. Ettedgui suggested a couple of former No. 2 picks as potential additions to bolster the Canadiens’ roster.

Of particular interest is Patrik Laine of the Columbus Blue Jackets, whom Ettedgui highlighted as a potential trade target for Montreal ahead of the 2025 season. Laine, who is contracted for the next two seasons following a four-year, $34.8 million deal signed in July 2022, is viewed by Ettedgui as one of the logical targets for the Canadiens, alongside Kaapo Kakko of the New York Rangers, another former No. 2 pick.

The Montreal Canadies might explore trading for Columbus Blue Jackets' Patrik Laine.

Ettedgui pointed out that Laine’s offensive playing style could complement Montreal’s needs, making him a desirable acquisition for the team. Laine’s contract, which pays him $8.7 million annually until the summer of 2026, might involve salary retention by the Blue Jackets due to his perceived market value.

Meanwhile, the future of Patrik Laine with the Columbus Blue Jackets remains uncertain as the franchise undergoes a transition under new General Manager Don Waddell.
