Another Uva talented Star has Departed to another team

Shelby Barbee has joined the Carolina softball team, as announced by head coach Megan Smith Lyon. Barbee comes to Chapel Hill from Virginia, where she spent three seasons and still has two years of eligibility remaining.

Originally from Oakboro, N.C., Barbee was recognized as an All-ACC Third Team member in 2024 during her time with the Cavaliers. Throughout the season, she participated in all 54 games, achieving a batting average of .259, which ranked as the third highest on the team. Her performance included 30 hits, two doubles, a triple, six home runs, 18 RBIs, 22 walks, and 13 times hit by pitches.

Primarily playing at first base, Barbee excelled in ACC matches, boasting a batting average of .319. Her standout performance led to her selection as an ACC Player of the Week on April 30.

Barbee’s family background includes her parents Amanda and Kelly Barbee, and she has an older sister named Walker, who previously played college softball at Elon and Pitt.

Before joining Carolina, Barbee will complete her degree in kinesiology at Virginia, graduating in August.
