Huge boost: Rutgers lands Commitment of another talented star to bolster their corps of players

The Scarlet Knights have secured another commitment from a New Jersey native. the team continues to hit on all cylinders in the Class of 2025.

On Tuesday night, four-star receiver Michael Thomas III announced his commitment to Rutgers on social media. The Donovan Catholic pass catcher held offers from Michigan, Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Maryland, among many others.

Thomas III is currently ranked 108th in the ESPN 300. He is the No. 3 player in New Jersey and eighth wide receiver. Rutgers now has three players ranked 108th or better, according to ESPN.

Thomas III, a highly sought-after receiver known for his exceptional athleticism and agility, has emerged as one of the premier wide receiver prospects on the eastern seaboard. Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing 200 pounds, Thomas III has also distinguished himself as a track standout, utilizing his remarkable speed to excel in events such as the 100 meters, where he clocked an impressive 10.83 seconds this spring, and the long jump, where he recorded a distance of 21-6.

In his junior year, Thomas III showcased his football prowess by tallying 34 receptions for 467 yards and scoring seven touchdowns through the air. Additionally, he contributed 420 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground, highlighting his versatility and impact on the field.

 

 

 

 

Rutgers has now secured the highest number of commitments in the recruiting class, with a total of 23 pledges. This achievement follows a busy weekend that saw the addition of highly-rated prospects Tariq Hayer and Joshua Blackston. Furthermore, offensive lineman Jaelyne Matthews’ commitment on Tuesday elevated Rutgers’ recruiting class, propelling the university to ninth place in the national rankings.

Thomas III adds to the already formidable lineup of receivers in Rutgers’ recruiting class, which includes Sah’nye Degraffenreidt from Atlantic City and Vernon Allen from Baltimore, as well as Jourdin Houston from St. Thomas More.

 

 

Head coach Greg Schiano has been actively engaged in recruiting efforts over the past fortnight, securing commitments from top prospects who have chosen Rutgers over prestigious programs nationwide. While the Scarlet Knights prepare for the eagerly anticipated 2024 season, the coaching staff remains diligently focused on attracting exceptional talent from across the country to maintain the program’s strong position.
