East Carolina bolster 2024 roster with the signing of another talented player

Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas, is no stranger to producing high-caliber quarterbacks, and East Carolina’s coaching staff believes it may have gotten the latest standout from the school in the form of Chaston Ditta

A three-star prospect from the Lone Star state, Ditta committed to ECU publicly on Tuesday on the heels of his official visit to campus. The three-star class of 2025 prospect chose the Pirates over programs such as Colorado State, James Madison, Marshall and others. He had interest from several prominent schools in the area, but due to starting only half a season as a junior for Lake Travis, Ditta’s recruitment has been a bit more quiet than some stellar Lake Travis quarterbacks before him.

Hudson Card, Garrett Gilbert and Baker Mayfield are among the most recent big-name quarterbacks that starred at Lake Travis and have gone on to have strong football careers, in different ways. Mayfield, the most successful quarterback of that group thus far, was the lowest-rated and actually started his career as a walk-on at Texas Tech. He was a three-star prospect (84 overall) by 247Sports out of Lake Travis.

Ditta, currently rated 82 overall as a three-star recruit, contrasts with Gilbert, a five-star recruit, and Card, who was a four-star out of high school. Both Gilbert and Card were widely recognized as top prospects. Ditta sees their achievements as setting a benchmark he strives to match.

“I feel like they’ve set the standard,” Ditta explained. “It’s like you have to reach that level. There’s no room for excuses. You have to excel. You have to challenge yourself to meet that standard. You’ve got to embody that level of commitment.”
