It’s currently peak recruiting season, and there’s been a rapid surge in commitments for Michigan football. Over the past week alone, they’ve secured three commitments and are gaining momentum with other top prospects, notably five-star offensive lineman Andrew Babalola.
Babalola, a standout from Kansas, is a coveted recruit and stands out for his willingness to prioritize finding the right school over lucrative NIL opportunities. As an offensive lineman, Michigan, led by Sherrone Moore, has a compelling pitch for Babalola.
The competition for Babalola is primarily seen as a showdown between Michigan and Stanford, with education being a significant factor for him. Fortunately for the Wolverines, Michigan offers an educational experience on par with Stanford’s while boasting a superior football program.
Stanford is the perceived leader and holds all of the predictions for Babalola currently, but the Wolverines his official visit this weekend and have put themselves into a position to seriously compete with the Cardinals.
Babalola already visited Stanford and will wrap up his visits with a visit to Oklahoma next weekend. Following that visit, he is expected to announce his commitment. Michigan getting him on campus after Stanford is obviously huge. While it’s scary that a local school with good NIL is getting the final visit, it still feels like this is a Michigan vs Stanford battle.
Michigan football had a great official visit
Sherrone Moore can sell Babalola on being the best on and off the field, and his connection to the state of Kansas certainly helps Michigan football. It really feels like Michigan knocked this visit out of the park. If it can maintain momentum through the Oklahoma visit, this will definitely be one to watch.
Babalola is the only recruit currently ranked as a five-star that Michigan is a serious competitor for. While some guys could certainly move up in the rankings, landing Babaloa would be absolutely massive for a program that just won a national championship with only two five-star recruits.
Michigan has been badly missing the top-tier talent in these recent recruiting classes. Babalola would be a huge land and would give the Wolverines the momentum to possibly finish with a top 5-10 class in the country. While this one is definitely too close to call at the moment, you can bet that Sherrone Moore is going to put everything he has into landing Babalola.
