Rutgers football has been actively recruiting, securing three four-star recruits in the past week. Continuing their momentum, the Knights recently gained commitments from two three-star cornerbacks on Sunday, both from southern states.
The first commitment came from Kaylib Singleton, who plays at Fleming Island in Orange Park, Florida. Singleton had an impressive junior season, earning an All-First Coast Third Team selection with 27 tackles and an interception. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 173 pounds, he also excelled in track and field, winning the district championship in the 100-meter dash as a freshman with a time of 11 seconds. Singleton is part of a recent trend at Rutgers, with several recruits demonstrating strong track backgrounds, making him the third such player in this recruiting cycle.
Singleton marks Rutgers’ fifth recruit from Florida, highlighting the team’s strong connections in the Sunshine State. He is ranked as the 61st player in Florida and the 43rd best cornerback in the class of 2025. Despite offers from schools like LSU and an official visit to Florida, Singleton opted to close his recruiting process early in favor of Rutgers, canceling an upcoming visit to Michigan.
The second commitment of the day came from Jakarrion Kenan of Clinton High School in Bennettsville, South Carolina. Kenan, standing at six feet tall and weighing 177 pounds, had an impressive junior season with 17 tackles, five tackles for loss, and four interceptions. Like Singleton, Kenan also competed in track, achieving a personal best of 15.89 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles.
Despite official visits to Duke and a scheduled visit to Mississippi State, which he canceled, Kenan chose to commit to Rutgers
Both of these commits show just how well Rutgers has been recruiting in the southeast. The Knights have now landed five commits from Florida, three commits from Georgia, and two commits from South Carolina. This is the second year in a row that the Knights have posted a solid recruiting number in the south as 12 out of the 25 commits Rutgers landed for 2025 hailed from the southern United States. These commits show that nothing has changed and the Knights still have a strong recruiting base down there.
Another way that both of these commits have a big impact on the Knights future is the fact that they are both cornerbacks. Rutgers is currently thinning at the position as is and needed a big recruiting class in terms of cornerbacks to help ensure that they are not lacking at the position later down the line. Now they have four cornerbacks coming in, all with impressive speed and upside.
The final hidden meaning that their recruitment has for Rutgers is that it means that the Knights will once against climb the ladder in terms of recruitment class rankings. currently has Rutgers ranked as the No.9 recruiting class in the nation, up one spot from yesterday, and Rivals currently has Rutgers rated at the No.5 recruiting class in the nation. Rivals also has Rutgers rated at number three in terms of Big Ten recruiting classes behind only USC and Ohio State. 247sports has a similar rating for the Knights, just further down the list of top classes in the nation.
