Significant commitment: Another promising star commits to Hokies

Recruiting is in full swing in college football, especially with no breaks in June, allowing teams nationwide to arrange numerous visits. Virginia Tech’s football team is actively engaged in this, but they recently secured a commitment of a different kind.

Mike Young and the Virginia Tech men’s basketball program secured their first commitment for 2026 when Sin’Cere Jones announced his decision to join the Hokies on Sunday.

Jones, standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 195 pounds, currently plays at Churchland High School in Portsmouth. According to 247Sports, he ranks as the 13th best player in Virginia for his class. He had received nine offers, including interest from Mississippi State, VCU, ODU, and Radford.

What can the Hokies expect from Jones? At this stage, Jones fits the mold of a traditional wing player with his height and slender build. He demonstrates proficiency with his outside shooting. Assessing his post play is challenging due to his superior skills compared to his peers.

Predicting Jones’s impact as a freshman is uncertain, given the dynamics of the college basketball transfer portal, which could significantly alter team compositions from year to year. Nonetheless, the Hokies will have several seniors on their roster in the upcoming season.

Welcome aboard, Sin’Cere, and welcome home.
