Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 255 pounds, Johnson is not only a standout lineman but also ranks among the state’s top throwers with a 59-foot shot put, placing him sixth nationally among sophomores this spring. Last fall, as a sophomore on the football field, Johnson impressed with 80 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, and seven sacks.
Reflecting on his experience at Minnesota’s camp, Johnson told 247Sports, “The camp was outstanding. The energy, the music, the drills—all of it was top-notch. It felt more like a challenging football practice than just a camp.” He mentioned that after the camp activities, defensive line coach Winston DeLattiboudere introduced him to the coaching staff and escorted him to the players’ lounge. There, they discussed Johnson’s football journey and upbringing before DeLattiboudere brought him to meet Coach Fleck.
Recalling the pivotal meeting, Johnson said, “Coach Fleck explained why he wanted to offer me. He saw in me the heart and determination that fit perfectly with their program. Being a lifelong Gopher fan, it was a dream come true to commit immediately.” Johnson emphasized his deep connection to the campus, describing it as feeling like home from the moment he arrived.
Committing to Minnesota marked a surreal moment for Johnson, a realization of a lifelong aspiration. “I feel incredibly blessed and excited. It’s a dream come true,” he shared enthusiastically. With his commitment secured, Johnson expressed his gratitude and determination. “It means there’s more work ahead, and I’m ready to embrace it,” he affirmed.
As for the recruiting process, Johnson assured Minnesota fans that he was fully committed. “I’ve found everything I need right here,” he explained. Encouraging others, he added, “Hard work always pays off, no matter where you are in life. Keep striving for your dreams, and keep your faith strong.”
