Syracuse, N.Y, — Marcus Upton, a three-star recruit and the No. 25-ranked prospect in New Jersey, announced that he decommitted from Syracuse football on Wednesday.
Upton announced his decision on social media. In his social media anouncement he thanked Syracuse football coach Fran Brown and the Orange staff.
247 Sports ranks Upton as the 68th best safety prospect in the nation. He currently attends Winslow Township High School in Atco, New Jersey, having previously played at Timber Creek Regional in Sicklerville. Upton committed verbally to Syracuse in March, though such commitments are non-binding until a player signs a National Letter of Intent.
In the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Upton is rated as the 25th best player in New Jersey and is ranked 755th nationally. Among Syracuse’s commitments from New Jersey, he is third in the state rankings. According to 247 Sports, Upton’s height is 6 feet and weight is 185 pounds, playing in the position of safety.
His ranking in New Jersey varied from as high as 14th by 247 Sports to as low as 37th by Rivals. He was noted as a 6-foot, 185-pound safety by 247 Sports.
According to NJ.com, Upton made 50 tackles and four interceptions on defense last year. On offense, he caught 33 passes for 594 yards and scored seven touchdowns.

Syracuse currently has commitments from two other New Jersey players for the 2025 season, reflecting a focus on recruiting in this region under its new coach. Terrell Wilfong is ranked 17th and Haleem Muhammad is ranked 19th in New Jersey by 247 Sports.
