Greg Schiano’s efforts to retain top talent in New Jersey saw significant success on Sunday with the commitment of four-star linebacker DJ McClary to Rutgers. McClary, originally committed to Penn State, chose to stay local, announcing his decision via social media. Hailing from Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City, McClary had offers from major programs such as Ohio State, Michigan, Ole Miss, and USC, among others.
Ranked 145th overall in ESPN’s 300 and fourth in New Jersey for the Class of 2025, McClary has excelled at Snyder, showcasing his skills both defensively and offensively. In his junior year, he recorded 95 tackles, including 15 for loss, with two sacks and a forced fumble. Offensively, McClary amassed 1,420 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns, adding 795 passing yards and seven touchdowns.

With McClary’s commitment, Rutgers’ Class of 2025 now boasts 28 commits, the most in the nation, solidifying its status as a Top 10 class nationally. Schiano’s strategy to attract and retain local talent continues to yield dividends, as McClary joins recent commits like John Forster and Jaelyne Matthews, enhancing Rutgers’ recruiting class.
