Versatile OL reveals encouraging reason why he signed with Bills

La’el Collins’ tenure with the Bengals ended abruptly, and a late-season deal with the Cowboys didn’t lead to any playing time. Seeking to revitalize his career, the veteran offensive lineman signed with the Bills in free agency, a decision he recently reflected on.

Collins highlighted the Bills’ impressive performance in the running game against the Cowboys last season as a key factor that drew his interest to Buffalo. This game convinced him to join a team that prioritized excellence on the ground under new offensive coordinator Joe Brady, following the transition from Ken Dorsey. The 30-year-old aims to establish himself as a backup tackle or guard option with his new team.

Having been a starting right tackle for most of his Cowboys tenure and during his time with the Bengals in 2022, Collins’ career was interrupted by ACL and MCL tears. This resulted in a stint on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list and his eventual release. Reflecting on this challenging period, Collins admitted uncertainty about his NFL future during his recovery and subsequent time on Dallas’ practice squad.

Dealing with such a traumatic injury led Collins through tough mental battles, questioning his ability to return to form. However, he remains determined to achieve a season of full health with the Bills. While Spencer Brown is currently ahead of him on the depth chart at right tackle, Collins could offer valuable experience as a backup. Although it’s been some time since he last played guard, he may also serve as a backup option in the interior offensive line for Buffalo.

Collins emphasized that his ongoing recovery from knee surgery is crucial as he aims to reach peak physical condition before the start of training camp. His performance on the field, if given the opportunity, could significantly boost his prospects in free agency.

Overall, Collins sees Buffalo as a promising environment to revive his career and looks forward to the challenges ahead as he works towards reclaiming his place in the NFL.
