Syracuse key man signs 2-way deal with Minnesota Timberwolves

Former Syracuse Orange center Jesse Edwards faced disappointment in the 2024 NBA Draft when he went undrafted. However, he quickly found a new opportunity by signing a two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves, as reported by Christopher Hall of Sports Illustrated.

Standing at an imposing 7 feet tall with a wingspan of 7 feet 5 inches, Edwards brings size and defensive prowess to the Timberwolves. During his final college season, he averaged impressive stats of 15 points, 8 rebounds, and nearly 2 blocks per game.

Edwards, a 24-year-old Dutch center, played a significant role for four seasons with the Syracuse Orange, known for his contributions in both scoring and protecting the paint. Seeking a fresh challenge after completing the 2022-2023 season, Edwards transferred to West Virginia as a graduate student for his final year of eligibility, made possible by COVID-19-related adjustments.

Despite the immediate NBA opportunity, Edwards is expected to primarily develop his skills with the Timberwolves’ G-League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves, this season. He will also join Minnesota’s Summer League roster, commencing on July 12th in Las Vegas, alongside his former Syracuse teammate Joe Girard, who signed with the Toronto Raptors for the Summer League stint.
