Rutgers Football has secured another international recruit to bolster their special teams lineup.
Jack Scullion, an Irish kicker, announced via Instagram that he will be joining Rutgers in 2024. With three years of eligibility remaining, Scullion will play a crucial role in handling kickoff duties for the Scarlet Knights during training camp.
Reports indicate that Scullion is stepping in for Jude McAtamney, who moved to the New York Giants as a free agent after managing kickoffs and attempting long-range field goals for Rutgers last season.
In his Instagram statement, Scullion expressed his excitement about joining the Big 10 D1 college team on a full scholarship, thanking his family, friends, and coach Tadhg Leader of Leader Kicking for their support and guidance. He also extended gratitude to Rutgers’ coaching staff, particularly Coach Allen, for their warm welcome.
Rutgers already boasts Jai Patel, an All-Big Ten kicker, who focuses on place kicking and hasn’t handled kickoffs. Coach Greg Schiano has strategically filled this void with Scullion’s recruitment.
Special teams have been a focal point for Rutgers, highlighted by the success of Australian punter Adam Korsak, a Ray Guy Award winner. Korsak has since transitioned to the CFL, paving the way for Flynn Appleby to step in.
Schiano’s commitment to enhancing special teams remains steadfast as Rutgers gears up for the 2024 season, now fortified with the addition of Scullion to their roster.
