After an intensive month of recruiting efforts, the Texas Tech football program is poised to capitalize on its efforts with the class of 2025. On Monday, they secured a significant commitment from linebacker Kaleb Burns of Houston, Texas, marking one of their top priorities for this recruiting cycle.
Rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports.com, Burns stands at 6 feet tall and weighs 220 pounds. He is ranked as the 59th linebacker in the nation and the 81st overall player in Texas. His commitment solidifies him as the seventh-highest-rated recruit in Texas Tech’s 2025 recruiting class.
Burns had received offers from several prominent programs including Baylor, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Houston, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, and Utah, among others. Following an official visit to Lubbock on June 14, Burns made the decision to join the Red Raiders.

In the previous season, Burns showcased his skills with impressive statistics: 73 tackles, including 18.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception. Beyond football, Burns also excels in track, competing in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints, as well as the shot put.
This marks the second linebacker commitment for Texas Tech in the 2025 recruiting class, following the commitment of 3-star linebacker Brock Golwas from Flower Mound, Texas, back in January.
With a current class of 17 players, Texas Tech’s recruitment efforts have focused on bolstering their defensive lineup, with six players dedicated to the defensive side of the ball. The addition of Burns significantly enhances their defensive prospects.
Presently ranked 29th nationally, Texas Tech’s recruiting class is positioned fourth in the Big 12, trailing TCU, West Virginia, and Oklahoma State. However, with more commitments expected in the coming weeks, their ranking is anticipated to climb as they continue to strengthen their roster.
