Texas Tech softball program recently welcomed Alana Johnson, a transfer from Washington, who joins them with an impressive athletic and academic record. Johnson, originally from Summit, Mississippi, stood out during her time with the Huskies, particularly in her sophomore season where she started all 47 games and maintained a strong .336 batting average.
Known for her versatility on the field, Johnson began at second base as a freshman before transitioning to the outfield, showcasing her defensive prowess.
Her offensive capabilities are equally notable, leading Washington in home runs (13), RBIs (40), and total bases (97) last season. Over her career, Johnson has maintained a .301 batting average and an impressive .611 slugging percentage, propelled by 20 home runs and 10 doubles. She garnered accolades such as being named to the All-Pac 12 Second Team and the NFCA All-Pacific Region Third Team for her outstanding performance.
Beyond athletics, Johnson excels academically, recognized as an NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete and earning a place on the College Sports Communicator Academic All-District Team. Coach Gerry Glasco praised Johnson’s character, highlighting her bright demeanor, her pursuit of a pre-med major, and her positive impact both on and off the field.
With high expectations for her future at Texas Tech, Glasco anticipates Johnson’s immediate contribution to the team and the broader Lubbock community.
