Red Wings sign another major contender to bolster their corps of players

Anaheim Ducks goaltender Gage Alexander was traded to the Detroit Red Wings on July 3 in exchange for forward Robby Fabbri and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

Alexander, who is 22 years old and was drafted by the Ducks in the fifth round in 2021, has spent two seasons in professional hockey, splitting his time between the ECHL’s Tulsa Oilers and the AHL’s San Diego Gulls.

During the 2023-24 season, the 6-foot-6 goalie recorded five wins and had an .887 save percentage with Tulsa.

Prior to the trade, Alexander participated in the Ducks’ development program earlier in the month.

Before turning pro in December 2022, Alexander showcased his talents in the Western Hockey League with the Winnipeg Ice and Swift Current Broncos.

In his youth hockey career, Alexander played for the Okotoks Oilers Athletic Association, excelling with teams like the Okotoks Bow Mark Oilers, Rockyview Raiders, and Okotoks U15 AA Oilers, where he won a provincial championship with the latter team in 2017.
