Texas Rangers starting pitcher Max Scherzer recently addressed trade rumors on the “Foul Territory” podcast, asserting he doesn’t anticipate being traded again this summer. When asked about the possibility of waiving his no-trade clause, Scherzer expressed confidence in his team’s performance improving, making trade discussions moot.
Scherzer, a veteran of 17 seasons and an eight-time All-Star, has played for six teams in his career, showcasing his versatility as a top pitcher of the 21st century. Drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2006, he debuted in 2008 and was later involved in a significant trade to the Detroit Tigers in 2009.
His tenure with the Tigers saw him win his first Cy Young Award in 2014 before joining the Washington Nationals in 2015, where he enjoyed his longest tenure and won two more Cy Young Awards and a World Series in 2019.
.@ajpierzynski12 asked @Max_Scherzer if he would be willing to waive his no-trade at the deadline…again.
"Yeah, I'm not gonna do that…we're gonna play better baseball. It's gonna be a moot point to even talk about…we're gonna win here" #FTLive @BallySportsSW pic.twitter.com/3nucsTK1Hr

Following a mid-2021 trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers and a subsequent move to the New York Mets, Scherzer was traded to the Texas Rangers in July 2023. He had a solid start with the Rangers in 2023 but was sidelined by injury late in the season. After recovering from offseason surgery, Scherzer made his 2024 debut in June and continues to contribute to the Rangers’ efforts to contend in the AL West, although they face a challenging playoff chase.
Scherzer’s experience and leadership are key as the Rangers strive to improve their standings and secure a postseason spot amidst a competitive season.
