The Virginia Tech Hokies have been active in recruiting lately, securing commitments from several players. On July 1st, four-star wide receiver Matthew Outten from Portsmouth chose Virginia Tech over Penn State and Maryland.
Then, on Wednesday evening, the Hokies added their 11th commitment for the 2025 recruiting class with four-star wide receiver Micah Matthews, who opted for Virginia Tech over North Carolina and other schools.
Matthews, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 205 pounds, is ranked as the 118th best player nationally for 2024 by 247Sports, and is considered the 5th best player in Virginia. Notably, he is also highly regarded in baseball, being ranked as the 54th best prospect by Baseball America. Matthews intends to pursue both football and baseball at Virginia Tech.
I’m thrilled to announce my commitment to Virginia Tech, where I'll be playing both baseball and football! This journey has been incredible, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent my home state. Looking forward to what the future holds. Go Hokies! 🦃⚾🏈 #GoHokies pic.twitter.com/ut9VukxEQq

In an interview with 247Sports, Matthews explained his decision to choose the Hokies. His commitment represents a significant success for football coach Brent Pry and baseball coach John Szefc. Fontel Mines, the wide receivers coach, played a pivotal role in recruiting Matthews.
He will be joining a talented group of receivers in 2025 that includes Keylen “Brodie” Adams, Chanz Wiggins, Chance Fitzgerald, Ayden Greene, and others.
Overall, Micah Matthews’ decision to join Virginia Tech is seen as a triumph for both their football and baseball programs. Welcome to Blacksburg, Micah!
