Cincinnati Reds bolster 2024 MLB draft roster with the signing of another standout player

Luke Holman, a right-handed pitcher for LSU baseball, was chosen by the Cincinnati Reds as the 71st overall pick in the second round of the 2024 MLB draft, which includes competitive balance round B selections.

During the past season, Holman maintained a 2.75 ERA across 16 games, striking out 127 batters over 91⅔ innings in his single season with the Tigers. Previously, he transferred to LSU from Alabama before the start of last season, where he achieved a 3.67 ERA in 15 starts as a sophomore and a 5.68 ERA in his freshman year, spanning 19 innings.

Additionally, the Toronto Blue Jays had also drafted Holman in the 20th round of the 2021 MLB draft.

With Holman’s departure, LSU may consider replacing him in their pitching rotation, possibly looking towards recovering right-handers Chase Shores and Jaden Noot, both returning from injuries. Noot, recovering from Tommy John surgery, pitched one inning this past season after missing the previous one entirely, while Shores did not pitch at all this year following the same procedure in 2023.

Furthermore, LSU has bolstered its roster by acquiring seven right-handed pitchers through the transfer portal and may potentially welcome back left-hander Griffin Herring.
