The Chicago Cubs made a significant move in the 2024 MLB Draft by selecting Cam Smith, a standout third baseman from Florida State University. Smith’s career at Florida State has been marked by impressive achievements and a clear upward trajectory in his development as a top prospect.

Smith arrived at Florida State in 2023 and immediately made an impact, showcasing his talent with a .258 batting average, 54 hits, eight doubles, five triples, 12 home runs, 36 RBIs, and 39 runs scored in 51 games. His performance solidified his position as a key contributor to the team’s success.

In 2024, Smith elevated his game to another level, leading the Seminoles with a robust .387 batting average. He demonstrated remarkable consistency at the plate, striking out only 48 times in 269 at-bats while tallying 16 home runs, 57 RBIs, and an impressive 82 runs scored. Reflecting on his experience in the Men’s College World Series, Smith expressed his joy and fulfillment, describing it as a dream come true to represent Florida State on such a prestigious stage.

Smith’s baseball journey began in high school at Palm Beach Central in Wellington, Florida, where he was highly regarded as the top shortstop in the state and ranked 53rd overall nationally by Perfect Game.

Known for his disciplined approach and understanding of his strengths, Smith emphasizes his ability to hit to the opposite field, a skill he honed through meticulous practice and dedication.

Heading into the 2024 MLB Draft, Smith was recognized as a top 100 prospect and earned a notable ranking of 14th by MLB, highlighting his potential and readiness for professional baseball.
