USC football extended an offer to highly regarded 2026 Tupelo (Miss.) edge defender JaReylan McCoy last Thursday. McCoy, who competes with the California Power travel team, marks USC’s first commitment from California Power this year, following the recent signing of four-star 2025 Missouri wide receiver Corey Simms.
Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 245 pounds, McCoy is ranked as the No. 121 prospect overall and the No. 21 defensive lineman by 247Sports. In the 247Sports Composite rankings, he ranks significantly higher at No. 49 overall and No. 5 among defensive linemen.
USC faces stiff competition for McCoy, who has narrowed down his choices to a Top 12 list including Oregon, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Auburn, Arkansas, Penn State, Kentucky, Mississippi, and LSU.

Earlier this year, McCoy and his California Power teammates visited USC, although an offer was not extended at the time despite McCoy’s keen interest. Reflecting on the opportunity, McCoy remarked, “Where I’m from, not many people go to USC. It’s rare for linemen tournaments to draw us to California. Getting an offer from USC would be a significant achievement and a unique story for me. It’s a surreal experience, transitioning from watching them on TV to being here.”
USC currently leads the 2026 recruiting cycle with three commitments: four-star cornerback Brandon Lockhart from California, four-star cornerback Dominik Kelly from Florida, three-star athlete Madden Riordan from California, and three-star wide receiver Ja’Myron Baker.
