Following a dominant 55-17 victory over Virginia to cap off the regular season, the Virginia Tech football team is gearing up with a strong roster retention for the 2024 season. Key offensive players like quarterback Kyron Drones and running back Bhayshul Tuten have confirmed their return, alongside four talented wide receivers.
Stephen Gosnell, Da’Quan Felton, Jaylin Lane, and Ali Jennings have all announced their decision to return, bolstering a group that includes Tucker Holloway and promising newcomer Ayden Greene. With incoming freshmen Chanz Wiggins and Keylen Adams also joining the mix, the Hokies are poised to field a deep and competitive wide receiver corps this upcoming fall, potentially ranking among the top 15 in the nation.
While much attention has centered on Drones and Tuten forming a formidable rushing duo, Virginia Tech’s passing game promises to be equally formidable. Drones possesses ample arm strength and will have a wealth of receiving options at his disposal.
Felton, who amassed 667 receiving yards and eight touchdowns last season after transferring from Norfolk State, excels in yards after the catch and quickly separating from defenders. Lane, a reliable target, contributed 538 receiving yards and six touchdowns last fall. Gosnell, known for his precise route running, recorded 22 receptions for 347 yards and three touchdowns, including a crucial score in late-season victories over Boston College and Virginia that secured the team’s bowl eligibility.
Although Holloway’s availability remains uncertain due to a spring injury, newcomers Adams and Wiggins have the opportunity to challenge the veterans during training camp. Additionally, the return of Jennings, who suffered an injury early last season after a promising start, adds significant depth and experience to the receiving corps. Jennings showcased his prowess with Old Dominion, amassing over 2,000 career receiving yards before joining Virginia Tech.
