Buffalo Bills General Manager Brandon Beane responded strongly to a recent criticism of Josh Allen.
Earlier this month, ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler released a ranking of the top 10 NFL quarterbacks, compiled through votes from anonymous NFL executives, coaches, and scouts. Allen was ranked third, behind Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow. However, the article also included a comment from an anonymous “veteran NFL executive” who labeled Allen as “one of the more overrated players in the NFL.”
In a press conference on Wednesday following the Bills’ first training camp practice at St. John Fisher University in Pittsford, N.Y., Beane was asked about the “overrated” remark.
“It’s frustrating. You try to ignore this stuff,” Beane said. “Josh is going into Year 7, and there are still naysayers. I don’t understand it. If I were to use the term ‘rated,’ I’d say ‘underrated’ before ‘overrated.’”
"There's idiots everywhere."

Beane continued, “I know I’m biased because he’s our guy and we love him every single day. People seem to enjoy these rankings, but if you’re not willing to put your name to such comments, who is this ‘executive’? ‘Executive’ is a vague term. I wish the writer wouldn’t include such remarks. There are fools everywhere.”
Beane further noted that the criticism surrounding Josh Allen has been ongoing since he was drafted in 2018. Despite this, Beane—and likely every Bills fan—believes Allen’s strengths far surpass any criticisms.
Allen has earned two Pro Bowl selections and has finished in the top five of the NFL MVP voting in three of the past four seasons.
Beane has consistently defended Allen with strong statements. Earlier this year, he gained attention on social media for his memorable comment about trading for Allen back in 2018.
