Ohio State grad also serves as director of hockey operations
It’s been a significant summer for Detroit Red Wings personnel with ties to the Big Ten. The team signed former Michigan Wolverine Tyler Motte as a free agent and is also promoting an Ohio State University graduate within their ranks.
Aaron Kahn, previously the Director of Hockey Operations, is now adding the role of Assistant General Manager to his responsibilities.
“I’m excited to announce that I’m starting a new position as Assistant General Manager & Director of Hockey Operations with the Detroit Red Wings,” Kahn shared on his LinkedIn profile.
With this addition, the Red Wings now have three assistant GMs working under General Manager Steve Yzerman.
Shawn Horcoff primarily manages the Red Wings’ farm system and serves as the General Manager of the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.
Kris Draper, as the club’s Director of Amateur Scouting, oversees the scouting staff and is responsible for the preparation work for the NHL Entry Draft.
Kahn Will Be Working On Red Wings Hockey Business
In his new role, Kahn will handle the business aspects of the Red Wings’ hockey operations, focusing on contracts and salary cap management.
A Berkeley, California native, Kahn began his hockey career as a goalie with the San Jose Jr. Sharks. He walked on at Ohio State, where he played for the Buckeyes’ club team in the ACHA and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Sport Industry and Business, with a pre-law focus.
After graduating, Kahn spent the 2016-17 NCAA season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Bowling Green Falcons, working with the team’s goaltenders and serving as a video coach.
