Buffalo Bills Sign Veteran Safety
The Buffalo Bills have kicked off their training camp with a focus on bolstering their secondary, and they’ve made a notable move by signing veteran safety Kareem Jackson. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Jackson has signed a one-year contract with the team.
Jackson brings a wealth of experience to the Bills, having played 14 seasons in the NFL. He spent approximately 9.5 years with the Houston Texans and the remaining 4.5 years with the Denver Broncos. Over his long career, Jackson has achieved impressive stats, including 22 interceptions (three of which were returned for touchdowns), seven forced fumbles, and 954 combined tackles.
This signing is a significant addition to the Bills’ secondary and suggests that they may be parting ways with another veteran, safety Micah Hyde. Hyde is currently a free agent, and with the acquisition of Jackson, it seems increasingly unlikely that the Bills will re-sign him. Last season, Hyde recorded two interceptions and 54 combined tackles.
The Bills’ pass defense had a strong showing last season, allowing the seventh-fewest passing yards per game (196.6). With Jackson joining the team, Buffalo aims to either match or improve on that performance in the upcoming season.
While the Buffalo Bills have addressed a key need in their secondary with the signing of Kareem Jackson, they still face considerable pressure as they head into the 2024 season. Last year, the Bills were once again knocked out of the playoffs by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Despite having the advantage of home-field advantage, the Bills fell short, raising concerns about the potential closing of their Super Bowl window. As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on the Buffalo Bills to see if they can overcome past setbacks and achieve redemption.
