Rangers outfielder Evan Carter received unfortunate news on Tuesday
The Texas Rangers placed outfielder Evan Carter on the 60-day injured list on Monday. On Tuesday, Rangers general manager Chris Young gave a disheartening update, indicating that Carter’s season is likely over, as reported by Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News.
“Chris Young says the Rangers do not anticipate Evan Carter returning this regular season. He simply needs more time to rest his back. That’s the situation,” Grant shared on X, formerly Twitter.
Carter had made a notable impression in his first 23 MLB games in 2023, securing a spot on the playoff roster and becoming a postseason standout. Despite not having an official rookie season in MLB, expectations for Carter in 2024 were high.
However, due to ongoing injuries, Carter has only played 45 games this season and has posted a disappointing .188/.272/.361/.633 slash line. He has not been the same player who contributed to the Rangers’ World Series win in 2023.
At 21 years old, Carter has continued to struggle with a back injury. Fans had hoped he might return in 2024, but unless he makes an unexpected recovery, it seems unlikely he will play again until 2025.
The Rangers had a relatively quiet trade deadline, making no blockbuster trades or significant acquisitions. However, there is some positive news: Jacob deGrom is showing signs of improvement, and his return could provide a crucial boost for the team. Additionally, Tyler Mahle might also play a key role for the Rangers as the season progresses.
After winning the World Series in 2023, Texas appears confident in their current roster, despite the absence of Evan Carter.
