Rockies Sign Chasen Shreve To Minors Contract

The Rockies have signed Chasen Shreve to a minor league contract, according to his MLB.com profile. Shreve, who was recently released from his minor league deal with the Yankees, has now joined his ninth big league organization in a 15-year professional career.

Over his career, Shreve has played with seven Major League teams, including two stints with the Yankees, where he accumulated 174 2/3 innings out of his 356 total big league innings. Despite minor league contracts with the Rangers and Yankees in 2024, Shreve did not make a major league appearance, so he is now aiming to secure a spot on the Rockies’ roster and achieve his 11th MLB season.

Despite his journeyman status, Shreve has posted respectable career numbers with a 3.97 ERA, a 25.3% strikeout rate, and a 10.8% walk rate. However, his performance has been inconsistent in recent seasons, with a 6.49 ERA in 26 1/3 innings with the Mets in 2022 and a 4.63 ERA in 44 2/3 innings with the Tigers and Reds last year. His 3.64 SIERA over 2022-23 suggests better performance than his ERA might indicate, as a high home run rate in 2022 particularly impacted his numbers.

This year, Shreve has been effective in Triple-A, recording a 1.89 ERA in 33 1/3 innings for the Rangers’ and Yankees’ top affiliates. His strong performance in the Pacific Coast League with Triple-A Sugar Land gives hope that he can maintain his form in the hitter-friendly environment of Albuquerque.
